This map was created by Oronce Finé, a French mathematician, circa 1525, also known with the Latin name Oronteus Finaeus. Strikingly, the map shows a a remarkable resemblance to the true shape of Antarctica. Some experts are of the opinion that this map specifically depicts the continent as ice-free, despite wide spread understanding that the ice cap is several hundred thousand years old.
